Remember this post (click and use back button to come back to this post) ? Well we finally made good use out of the fabric and turned them into some amazing fashion statements!
After the first step was done (painting the fabric by the Ls) I covered their painted flowers with Elmers Glue and let it dry. Then it was again the Ls turn to get messy with acrylic paints to cover the rest of the fabric with more paint.
I was smarter this time and moved this messy activity to the outside. I am still cleaning my kitchen from last times paint splattering fun.
Once that was done, dried and then laundered plus dyed again I got to work on the sewing part.
The paint gives the cotton fabric a somewhat stiff shape and feeling so I added little underskirts since the Ls are very picky when it comes to scratchy clothing items.
If something is "too itchy" or "not soft" they are worn for 1 minute tops and then never again.
I added some colorful buttons to the bottom of the skirts and this is what the result looks like.
I absolutely LOVE the skirts and so do the Ls. They wore their master pieces with great pride and made heads turn for sure :)
At 1:00 pm we took off to walk down the street to Ls new school, Curtner Elementary School, to attend the long awaited Ice Cream Social for the Kiga Class of 2010.
As soon as we entered the playground my eyes started searching through the crowd trying to pin-point out all potential suspects which could harm my wonderful Lillie Bean in any way.
I saw a few "Heidi's" and some rowdy boys pretending to shoot each other just as I had feared.
But when I looked around me there were at least 20 other mothers with squinted eyes searching the masses for the same evil. I wasn't alone!!!
One of the school employees asked us if we had a child in Kiga (Kindergarten) and if she was our first.
We confirmed both and she just looked at us with a warm and comforting smile and said "You'll be fine!". NOT "she'll be fine" NO "you'll be fine."
I guess I am not the first mother to go in camouflage clothing and make-up to school to protect my child from the big evil; a.k.a. life.
The Ls had a fun time and big L made already a little friend, Velvet (I wonder if her brothers name is Corduroy?).
We spoke to her teacher ( as we found out tonight that she is in fact her teacher) and found her very warm and friendly. She sent each child home with a big hug and a "I can't wait to see you on Monday."
She has been at the school for a long time and I watched as older siblings came to greet her who obviously had been once her students in Kiga. She remembered all of their names and only said kind words to them.
We also found out that she got into the morning class as we had hoped.
BUT on Monday morning we'll try to switch her to the later class since the AM session has 20 students and the PM has only 12.
I really hope we can switch her over. 12 seems like a much more manageable number of nervous, scared, anxious, hyper, excited, off the wall bouncing kids than 20.
Keep your fingers crossed that Mama Czarnota gets her way :)
We ended this very exciting day by meeting the one and only Jay at the Ortega Park for some much needed Marriott time.
It's been way too long since the Ls got to put their arms around Jay's neck ... we had to pry them off of him and he was running for his life trying to escape Lulu's kisses ... he had no chance with Lillie though :)
It was GOOD to see his happy little face. Oh how we have missed him!!! All of us!
On Monday I will follow up with a "First Day of School" post. We shall see what Kiga Day #1 will have in store for us ...
