I am sitting here at my computer and have finally logged into my blog, for the first time this year!
I have never taken such a LONG break from recording our lives.
Christmas and New Years have passed, January passed and we are completing the last days of February.
What made me return to my "old ways" is the need to record these last few weeks.
These weeks were long, filled with hard work, lots of driving and "doing" but mostly with deep gratitude for life and health and the opportunity to DO SOMETHING meaningful, something GOOD for somebody else.
The first time I saw a picture of him, saw his awesome smile and his crazy hat, my heart just fell for this young lad.
15 years young and a life story to tell longer than many adult stories.
A Warrior fighting the biggest fight of all, the hardest and the most trying.
This boy that we don't know, never met or spoke to, moved into our house and into our hearts on a quiet afternoon.
L was complaining that this was "the worst day of my life" while I was reading a friend's FB post.
I read it out loud to Lillie because I wanted her to know what it means to have "the worst day of your life".
I read to her that this boy's mom spends $50 a day just to eat so she could sit by his bed side, hold his hand and watch him endure all these procedures, the pain and be frightened.
She was very quiet after I read this to her and told her how hard some people's life truly is.
Having to read one more chapter in a "Magic Tree House" was nothing compared to what this Warrior Boy was going through.
L thought for a long time and then said "I can make pictures and sell them to make money for his mom"
and this is how it ALL began, on this quiet afternoon, January 26, 2013 ...
Today is February 26, 2013 and much has changed since that afternoon.
What started as a "sale of hand drawn pictures", which surely would have been a big hit, turned into a HUGE Fundraiser Yard Sale, with over 200 people (guessing) stopping by, Storm Troopers, Clone Troopers as well as Jedi directing traffic and many, many wonderful friends helping us raise money for this wonderful Warrior Boy and his Warrior Mom (& family).
We stopped counting at $4200 ... with funds continuing to pour in, either via the Fundraiser site or envelopes stuffed with bills, pushed into my hand while passing by.
People have been SO GOOD and KIND and it took our family a few days to come down from this happy-cloud that we were on.
I wish I could describe how it felt to deposit this huge amount of money (it's a lot for us, believe me!) into Deven's account.
Ever since my heart fell for this Warrior Boy I wished that I could do something for him.
Sending notes and posting comments is great, it shows compassion and care BUT it doesn't help.
Not even this huge amount of money helps him.
It doesn't make his cancer disappear, it doesn't buy a cure and it doesn't buy him one day of being a regular teenager, driving his mom crazy asking for the car keys or to go out on a date.
But the money we raised helped him and his mom in the sense that she can sit there, hold his hand, read to him or just watch him breathe (I know that's what I would be doing).
It helped US feel good.
It helped us feel like we could make a difference and do more than just telling her "Keep your head up. All will be good!"
I keep thinking about what one could say to this Warrior Boy and his mom to make it better?
Nothing!
Not one word will ease the pain, flatten the road or bring up their hopes.
His fight lays in the hands of doctors, poison that enters his body to kill the beast (but it also kills the boy) and as I read today, it's a little bit of luck too.
Wishes and support are nice and sometimes all one has to fall back on but being able to help in some tiny way makes me feel ... well it feels good!
But I can't help but feel rather selfish.
I get to feel good and we get praise and have articles written, people hug us and tell us "how great we are" but truly, we did it to make ourselves feel better.
This "act of true kindness for a stranger" was a very selfish act if you look at it from my perspective.
We get the praise and the thank you but this boy, this wonderful Warrior Boy, gets to fight the same fight, he still feels as crappy as before, possibly more and all these hugs are not reaching him.
All I want to do is to go to him and hold his face in my hands and tell him "You are healthy, go home, be free!"and to tell his mom "It's over! He is ok! Breathe!" but I can't do that.
So with all this glory and "success" comes a very sad feeling as well.
So you see it's quite a roller coaster ride for us.
Lillie is pretty cool about it.
She has worked very hard, not without complaining some times but she is only 8 and has the right to do that while we keep pushing her into the (hopefully) right direction.
I keep looking at her with this great sense of calm and pride.
My daughter, my baby girl, my Sunshine (as we called her for her first12 months of life), my Tom Boy started all of this.
Her heart is as big as her feet are (I can almost wear her shoes ... they are HUGE :)
Since she was a itty person she cared for others ... sometimes bossed them around but that too is a strength (leadership skills :) and today I look at her and I know that with all the mistakes Pat and I have made raising these two little people we must have done something right.
We are very blessed in so many, many ways!
We are blessed with these amazing Ls in our lives, that are the joy of everything and will always be for us.
Before L went to sleep last Saturday she looked at me and said "you are right mom, giving does feel better than receiving".
And you know what? This is the first time I truly understood this saying myself.
If I had one wish for my kids I would wish for health!
Love comes from within, hopefully they will always know that they are loved and feel it.
Money comes with success, which comes with hard work ... this they can do on their own.
Health is the one thing that we can not buy or achieve on our own.
If I had another wish, I'd wish to win the lottery so I could give our Warrior Boy whatever is needed to heal and ease the road he and his family are traveling.
Deven Leonis, the true hero of this story!

Love is ...
... when you learn how to cook brunch with your loved ONE!
L and her J together at cooking class
I asked her what her favorite part of the class was,
L: Being with J!
M: Why did I even ask :)
She was lucky and got to go back to J's house.
On the way back home, after playing for a few hours, she had a complete melt-down, crying for her J and complaining "I never get to see him anymore! What if he forgets me and marries somebody else? waeheaehaehaehaheeeee ... "
No worries my child, he won't forget you ... and if he does then I have no doubt you'll hunt him down and remind him :)
Thanks Jay-Jay for making Ls day so special!
You have a very special (and big) place in my daughter's heart (... and mine too :)!

Said the carnivore to the vegetarian ...
Carnivore: "I give you $10 out of my piggy bank if you try a piece of my filet mignon tonight!"
Vegetarian: "Is that enough money to buy a new Barbie?
... a hard choice indeed.
I bet $10 she won't go near the piece of dead cow.

Extrem Opposites
The Ls needed new swim wear since they outgrew everything and we'll be needing it for our next "out of town" trip.
Here are their choices ...
Little L
(sexy, feminine, super girly and na-course she had to have a BRA!!!!)
and NO, I do not tell her to pose, this comes rather natural to her.
... and then there is big L.
One look at the girl section and she said "NO WAY!!" turned around and walked right over to ...
(and YES, this is a Star Wars tattoo on her forehead!)
(and YES, this is a Star Wars tattoo on her forehead!)
One surfer sun shirt and Star Wars swim trunk later ...
the "girl" is happy :)
I told her some girls may tease her but she said "I don't care! They just don't get it. Tom Boys are like that Mama, you know!"
... I guess so!
You could not create two more opposite characters like the the Ls are.
What one LOVES the other one despises!
They are like day and night, sweet and sour, warm and cold.
I am not sure how this happened but boy these two are from two different planets!
... and I love them just the way they are!!!!

book worm
My dear L,
One day when you'll ask me "mama, when did I start loving books?"
I can show you this post and say:
.... RIGHT THEN MY LOVE!
This is your first chapter book ever!
Right now I am seeing you laying around the house all day reading and reading and reading.
(The fact that we promised a new Lego toy if you read a whole book by yourself my have a tiny thing to do with it :)
BUT whatever works, right :)
I think it did the trick.
When I tell you to put down the book you just say
"just one more page mama, please!!!"
Welcome to world of reading!
Read away my Love ... let your imagination take you into far away places full of adventure and surprises and may you find happiness and joy in every, single page!
I am SOOOO proud of you!

Efficiency is ...
When you ask your 6 year old to "Please feed the Dork" and you walk by his bowl a few minutes later to find this ...
When ask "Why did you feed him SO MUCH?"
L answered "So I don't have to feed him tomorrow again."
Ahhh ... na-course! I should have come to this conclusion on my own!
Thats what I call Efficiency!!!

OK guys, 5 minutes, in and out! Capito?
That WAS the plan.
The Ls and I took a trip to Target (again, this time to return/exchange the lounge wear :).
It was supposed to be a quicky, in and out, we all know how that works. Right? ;)
Well, let me tell'ya ... taking the Ls to Target was a trip worth blogging!!!
Oh yes, after I convinced them that we needed to leave the underpants isle we walked right into the next trap.
After Rapunzel kissed Flynn for the 20th time (we do have the movie at home and have seen it enough times to narrate it) I finally convinced the Ls that it was time to leave.
We left the store and luckily the homeless guy collecting money for the other homeless people in his family had left to flirt with the newly blond beggar lady in front of the Dollar Tree.
I sure hope this romance will work out. She did have a nice fresh coloring job done on her hair.
My questions is just, if you have freshly died hair and hold your begging can with new, French manicured nails ... why is it that you don't have money to buy food?
Obviously I need this vacation badly . Once you start worrying about the love life of the beggars of Milpitas it's beyond a day at the spa. For sure!

First we had to ...
Dream BIG!!!
I hate to break it to you girls, but it's most likely NOT in your genes,
unless you got some Czarnota luck up there.
If you got my stuff you are stuck in the training bra section for life.
A-cup baby and it's more like a lower case a, not a Capital one.
Lulu's choice also worked well as a cap,
a wee bit too big but hey ... full sun protection :)
Oh yes, after I convinced them that we needed to leave the underpants isle we walked right into the next trap.
"Tangled" was playing on all 20 TV screens on display.
Talk about 20D in HD. WOW!!!
The first 15 minutes we spent lounging on the floor, concentrating on the big 42" screen right in front of us.
But then we moved on to a more personalized setting and chose separate screens in eye-sight.
The next 20 minutes basically flew by (in S-L-O-W motion).
Awww ... then little L started dancing and singing, na-course.
If there is an audience she MUST perform.
... and she danced and danced and danced.
At this point I had probably 50% of the Target Security Guard Force surrounding me, trying to figure out if I was going to steal every TV on the shelf or if I was just a super cheap mother, who takes her kids to a store to watch a movie for free.

Moral Minute
L and I had one or two of these last night, chatting about friendship, kindness and what kind of people you'd like to call friends and be friends with, since we are having a wee-bit of an issue with a certain Ms. Bossy (and Manipulative) in class right now. This Little Ms. Bossy has made it her agenda to rage against my little buddy-helper Lillie-Bean and exclude her from play time if L keeps playing with kids that Ms. Bossy doesn't like her to play with.
Well listen up Little Ms. Bossy, we are fighting back ... BIG TIME!
We won't let some little Ms. Bossy boss us around! NO WAY! Go and GET LOST!!!
Pat and I have been talking to L every night about her school DRAMA and tried to advise her on how to handle the situation. We even have gone as far as asking 1-800 GP for help ... since he has a Masters in Little People Behavior and all.
Well last night, L and I chatted about Bullies and being Unselfish. I have a great little helper on hand my "Mom's Moral Minute" booklets by Cynthia Beck, who have been MOST helpful!
The book gives you a very short story about the issue/topic, gives solutions and advice and then asks questions about the topic.
* When has someone been unselfish to you?
* How can you be unselfish in your family?
* In what ways do you like to share?
It took L a little while to come up with answers, I hinted about mama and papa always making food for her first and letting her choose the movie at movie night ...
Fast forward 9 hours and Pat and I woke up to the soothing sound of "Princess" on TV, Lulu all snuggled up in front of it, dishes banging, drawers shutting and the fridge being opened and shut and opened and shut ...
Lillie-Bean had taken this Moral Minute quite to her little OH-SO-LOVING heart!
She let Lulu choose a morning show (that NEVER happens without a fight, NEVER!!!) and then started working on making breakfast for the whole family.
Everybody had Fruit Cheerios (they had been soaking for a while ... they were very soggalicious;), a Danino yogurt and a glass of OJ.
WOW ... thats all I can say about Moral Minutes, just WOW!!! Totally, awesomely cool!
For one thing I was thrilled that L had actually listened to what we had talked about and I am hoping she will take the parts to heart that were directed towards little Ms. Bossy, and of course I was stoked that she decided that she could contribute and make breakfast for the whole family. So cool!!!!
Needless to say, we'll be having a Moral Minute more often now .... matter of fact, it's time for Pat's session right now ... topic of the day "husbandship and dirty socks" ... gotta go ;)

M: You can marry whoever you want to my Love.
L: But you said that you can't marry your brother or sister or the baby is not smart.
M: Yes I said that but ..
L: (rudely interrupting me ... like this is news) SEE, YOU CAN'T MARRY HIM!
Lulu: waehaehaehaehah.....waehaehaehaehae
M: Lulu, it's ok! Aiden is NOT your brother so you can marry him (if you want to in like 30 years!)
Lulu: WAEAEAEAEAEAE!!!! But I want him to be MY BRODDER and now he is NOT??? WAHAEAEAEAEAEAE .... SCREAMMMM!!!
L: SMILING in victory.
Mama: ready to bang my head on the table ... almost crying myself by now.
Lulu: Fine. I don't care. I marry Jakob anyways.
Mama: ???? Seriously ???? Why did you cry then and throw a fit?
Lulu: I degot (Lulu for forgot). Lillie want to play Barbies now?
L: sure ... and off they went ...

I solemnly swear ...
... to run my little butt off for my TEAM,
to score many, many goals and
to not throw a fit if I loose or don't get the ball!
AND to not stop in the middle of the game, fall to my knees and pick flowers instead of running the ball!
(this is what she did 3 years ago :):):)

As of today,
our amazing L is officially signed up for the Milpitas Junior Soccer League.
L at sign-up

L and Lulu are also back in the WATER!!!
Finally!!!
L is rocking with an amazing teacher, who also coaches a High School Varsity Team and who is "riding" her hard.
He is actually teaching her technique and makes her swim laps over and over until she "gets it".
This is a first for her, no more ducky-play time during swim lessons, it's all work, work and work and we sure have heard some complaints from our little super swimmer about that ...
He is a super nice guy and thinks the world of her, so of course he is on my "favorite list" :)
Lulu is in the Beginner Class and put her face in the water today, for the first time ... all by herself.
She was so proud and smiled all the way through class ... the fancy Mermaid-tail towel that was used as a bribe may ave given her a wee bit of encouragement :)
She is doing great and already got two stickers in her super-cool Swim-Passport :):):)
So all-in-all a good day! It seems like the CA CZs are back in business!

CZ Art Gallery - Family Exhibition
Part of L's homework was to draw a picture of her family and since Lulu has to do homework just like her big sis she did the same. Here are the master pieces of my two, young and very talented artists.
Enjoy!
