Family Week - Day 1

Pat is off for the next week ... much needed family time!!!

We started the week with a nice, cool-off day at the beach. We drove down to SC to get away from the blazing heat in our house. The drive was nice and quiet since Lulu was dozing off and L had her Nintendo DS to play with. This was until she realized that looking at a small screen on a winding road sitting in the backseat was not the best of choices. As we hit Santa Cruz it was all over ... her car seat and herself. Why do all of my latest beach trips include a throw-up-session???
We stopped at a lovely gas station and used their even more lovely restroom for cleaning-up. I was quite undecided; "go in there and get who-knows-what or go stinky to the beach and risk everybody else getting ill from her smell?"
I decided to wash her off, at least they had soap and warm water ... something they should occasionally use on that disgusting bathroom itself.

After a nice fresh-up we finally arrived at the beach and were surprised by a quite cool, wavy and overcast coast. It was perfect!!! We spent the day in sweat shirts, playing in the sand and eating ice cream, even thought I was quite worried that I had to clean it up later from L's car seat ... but what the heck; right!

The best part of the day was watching Patrick trying to pack up our pop-up beach tent ... what a joy!!!
He fought with this thing for 20 minutes straight and after several warnings on my side he finally threw the thing in the back of the 4Runner ... BUT since he is an engineer (yes, one of those who always have to figure out EVERYTHING even if it means getting snapped at by your oh-so-lovely wife) he tried to fight that thing back  in his on-the-go bag after we arrived at home. We didn't see him for an hour or so and after looking at his face I knew the tent had won. It's now resting peacefully in our garbage can ...

Anyhow, here is Day 1 in pics
