The last two days went something like this:
- get up
- shower
- prep breakfast
- wake up Ls
- dress Ls
- feed Ls
- make snacks and lunches for Ls
- drive L to school (one in Milpitas with a little pit-stop to pick up Nick, since he goes with Ls to the same summer school, the other one at the NORTH end of Fremont)
- drive back home (total commute time 8:30 am - 9:45 am)
- go to Home Depot, Lowes, Ikea, Home Depot, Lowes, Home Depot, Lowes
- try to do some work in the house
- bring Buddy back to the vet (to return all the medical equipment we had received and to get the OK from the vet ... which we DID YEAHHHH!)
- go back to Home Depot, Lowes, Home Depot, Lowes
choices, choices, choices
Since this is NOT our house which we are so generously remodeling, we are choosing more pocket friendly items (plus the pocket is empty anyways...)
So it'll be a marble look alike laminate counter top ... so tres chic :)
choices, choices, choices
Mrs. Hanzie brought us her faucet and if it fits we can just reuse her "old" one, which of course is like new!
We are truly blessed to have such generous friends who give us kitchens, appliances, puppies ... :P
I am feeling mighty eco friendly with this remodel.
It is a true fact that the Ls and my wardrobe is 80-90% second hand (Pat gets new ones, all the used clothing I can find in his size are way to short for him ... Milpitas is very asian that way :P
But now we have done (well hopefully soon) a complete kitchen remodel and 80% of the materials are reused or repurposed.
Flooring will be last ... probably tile.
This is how the kitchen looked like this morning.
All the upper cabinets are hung and even somewhat stocked. The bottom cabinets, sink and countertops went bye-bye this morning.
This is how this old house looks underneath the old crap we just ripped out.
Countertop samples.
My first NEW addition, a new sink.
The old one is so danged up and yuckie we (I) decided we needed to upgrade.
I wanted a white enamel on cast iron BUT ... that was too pricey so we went with stainless steel, single bowl with several in-set options.
- pick up Ls
- take L to piano class
- pick up groceries
- try to make a meal without a functioning kitchen
- invite the kitchen donors over for supper in a non functioning kitchen and a completely chaotic house ... I swear the only thing that was missing were the chickens on the dinner table (the LIVE ones!)
- try to convince Buddy that the chickens are NOT toys and the cats do NOT like him
- yell at the Ls 100000 times to get them to bring their entire toy collection back from the yard and trampoline into the house
- stuff Ls in the bathtub
- stuff Ls in bed, tell them "go to sleep NOW"
- and then do dishes ... in 3 "easy" steps
Step 1
Rinse
Step 2
Soak & Wash
Now you know why we remodeled the bathroom first.
Where would we have washed our dishes????
Step 3
Dry
Buddy was a "HUGE" help!
A good housewife always handles her utensils with great care!
She respects her husband and supports all of his decisions without asking questions.
She is always presentable, well groomed and properly dressed for the occasion.
Last but not least she does all her chores without complaining and ALWAYS does them with a smile on her face.
And while the contractor is fishing the spaghetti out of the bathtub I am sitting here and report on this lovely matter of DYI kitchen remodeling.
Clearly the visions of a shiny, sparkling, new and functioning kitchen have been tainted by the tremendous amounts predicaments on the way to this ever so highly desired goal.
... and the dog is tearing up more of the carpet in the playroom while I am writing this and I am not telling him to stop.
Why you ask, my beloved follower?
Why would I? Once the kitchen is done, the hardwood floors are sanded and finished throughout the house and the painting is completed we will most definitely need a new project to drive us bonkers!
Play room remodel ... here we come!!!!
