Omi's Recipe of the Day

I am adding a new category to the blog
Omi's Recipes;  a collection of all my favorite recipes my mom and grandma handed down to me or new yummy stuff that I come across and want to keep.

There are so many dishes that I grew up with, my comfy foods, my German roots. I decided it's about time I write them down for the Ls, so one day they can make Omi's Rotkraut (Red Cabbage) and Eierkuchen (German Pancakes) for all of my many grandkids :)

My Grandma gave me her treasured cook book that she got when she got married.

Print Date is 1952

Check out the left page, this is how a GOOD, German housewife prepped deserts for the evening table.
Right side, little Nadja decorating Omi's book :)

The book is quite interesting, it tells the good wife how to set the propper table, how to have the kids fed with porridge or some sort of "healthy" slime before the hardworking husband comes home from work so the children don't disturb his peaceful supper.

So here is the first Omi's Recipe of the Day:
Eierkuchen
(German Pancakes)

Zutaten: 1/4 L milk
                    100 gr flower
          4 eggs
                     a dash of salt

Zubereitung: Combine all ingredients and mix well, I use my blender and just blend the heck out of all the ingredients. Heat up a well greased pan (I spray oil in it ... make sure the whole pan is covered),  poor enough batter so the whole bottom of the pan is covered and let brown under medium heat. Once the edges of the pancake look dry flip over and brown the other side. If you have black smoke coming from the pan you have burned it  :)

Servier (serve): I love it the way we used to eat it at home, just sprinkle sugar on the pancake or cover with apple sauce, roll it up and eat like a burrito. The L's like to SMOTHER it with sugar and then lick it all off before eating the actual pancake ... I let them since this is how I used to do it at Omi's house (some of my VERY best childhood memories!!!). ENJOY!!!
