I was going to start on the blog right after we came home but then I saw the JUNGLE in my backyard. The first thing after we set foot on our beloved home-land was RACING into the garden to see what mother nature had provided for us. aaaannnndd .... OH MY LORD ... what a Jungle it was out there.
Tomato plants had fallen over due to the masses of fruit hanging on them, Zucchini everywhere, Kohlrabi the size of Pat's fist, wonderful, humongous, big, fresh basil, peppers .... real green peppers (my first try this year ... yeahhhhh). It was a sight for sore but hungry eyes .... some power-gardening was badly needed!
So yesterday we all jumped out of bed (around 8:45 am ...hi-hi) and went to work.
Weeding, tomato trimming, we cut back a lot of the zucchini leaves since they had almost covered the entire garden so nothing got any sun. We had to reinforce the tomato cages and build some wired concoctions so these things could bear the weight of "all the tomatoes in the world" as L said.
After a few hours of fun in the garden we went on to harvesting this ...
Supper was all taken care of .... but we needed something else. Somthing a bit bigger, larger ... hmmm .... what could it be? ...
Oh yes, the Equine-Reproduction-Czarnota-Breeding-Series ...
Pat before THE surgery ...
The MONSTER!!!!
I went and got myself a nice power-machine to process the MONSTER into something edible.
And there you have it ... Chocolate Zucchini Bread ala Mama Czarnota
The Ls LOVE it and ate about half of a loaf before supper ... THANK you Papa .... NOT!!!!!
I have enough zucchini in the freezer for 6 more of these puppies .... and that's just from that one Monster-Zucchini alone. There are more to come and I better come up with some creative ways to sneak zucchini into every, singe dish and we eat .... morning (hm... zucchini waffles or yogurt???) , lunch (Mac/Zucchini and Cheese???) and supper (zucchini, with zucchini and a bit of zucchini on the side and for desert ... zucchini:)
Thank you Mother Nature for providing for us! We love our homegrown veggies and fruit! Next year the garden will be a whole lot bigger!!!
